Gillian Furniss is an art educator and visual artist.
Her mission is for all children to have access to a studio art experience so they can learn in the visual arts.
She is committed to teaching art to at-risk multicultural children, training teachers to work in inclusive art classrooms in schools and community art organizations, and advocating for the visual arts as a site of learning.
She teaches art and art education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She taught studio art to multicultural urban children at community centers and supervised student art teachers in NYC public schools.
She writes about issues and research concerning art education and art therapy. Furniss presents at local, national, and international conferences.
